Acai Proves to be a Top Superfruit
Most of you have heard the term “superfruit,” but you may still be unsure of what this term means. A “superfruit” is a fruit that has extremely high health benefits when consumed. The Acai berry, native to the Brazilian rainforests, has been at the top of the list since it emerged early in 2004 in the United States. The Acai berry is believed to hold the best nutrition value of all fruits. The benefits of the Acai berry include: fighting free radicals, anti-aging properties, promoting heart health, digestion, and energizing properties. It is packed with fiber, healthy omega fatty acids, antioxidants, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. It also contains many vitamins, including B1, B2, B3, B-12, C, and E.
There have been many other fruits that have surfaced, claiming to be the next “superfruit,” such as camu camu, goji berry, and wolf berry, but evidence has yet to show that those fruits are absorbed by the body. If a fruit contains the ingredients, it is useless if your body cannot absorb them. Acai has proven to be absorbed by the body in a study conducted by a team of scientist at AgriLife Research. The study revealed that the human body is able to absorb the targeted levels of antioxidants. This research will open the door to future studies that examine Acai’s role in health related issues, and how it can best fight against various health ailments. Acai is believed to aid in high cholesterol, digestion, mental health, immune systems, improved sleep, and perhaps cancer. Further research will have to reveal how this little berry can fight disease.
