- What makes Viva! Acai ™such an exciting product?
The answer is simple. Consumers today are becoming more and more health conscious and Viva! Acai™ delivers a powerful and low-cost Acai plus Pomegranate in liquid form. Just ¼ oz. a day is all you need to get the most powerful combination of these incredible superfruits and the health benefits associated with them.
You may or may not know that Acai plus Pomegranate are the two most powerful superfruits in the world. Brought together into one formula, they provide you with amazing antioxidant power and more. When you view the top four antioxidants in the world, you begin to understand why Viva! Acai™ provides both ingredients.
3. Green tea
- Is Viva! Acai™ an anti-aging product? I have heard that it is.
I think it is fair to say that Acai is an anti-aging product. Acai has rapidly gained a reputation in that field and the experts seem to agree.
- How long does it take for Viva! Acai™ to start working?
That depends on what you are looking for. In terms of having more energy, you should see results within 7-10 days. As to other health aspects of the product, it depends.
- What is the difference between a superfood and a superfruit? I haveheard the term superfood used to describe Acai and Pomegranate.
There is no difference. It is just a descriptive term and for simplicity sake, we call Acai and Pomegranate superfruits. Of course, they are both superfoods.
- How many antioxidants are found in Acai? And how about the number of antioxidants that are found in Pomegranate?
Acai and Pomegranate contain an incredible antioxidant capacity and that is one of the principal reasons that they are called superfruits. There are several different methods of assessing antioxidant content and in testing, you will find that Acai comes out #1 and Pomegranate #2. That is why we formulated Viva! Acai™ with both of these superfruits. The best current measurement of antioxidant capacity is found in the ORAC value of Viva!Acai™.
- How well is Acai and Pomegranate absorbed into my body?
As industry leaders in the liquid Glucosamine industry, the makers of Syn-flex® liquid Glucosamine products have a great deal of experience in both bioavailability and absorption. Random testing of pills and capsules in products sold over-the-counter generally demonstrates that most products in those forms have too many binders and fillers in them. This means two things to you.
If you are taking an Acai or Pomegranate product in pill or capsule form(s), you may or may not be getting what the label promised in terms of dosage. Also, binders and fillers interfere with absorption and bioavailability.
When you are talking about the ingestion of polyphenols (Acai and Pomegranate) the clinical studies (both in vitro and in vivo) indicate that the ellagic acid in pomegranate is highly bioavailable in liquid form in a product such as Viva! Acai™. Overall, it has a very high absorption factor so you get the best possible delivery system from this product.
- Why are there so many more clinical studies of Pomegranate than Acai?
Although Acai is now the #1 ranked superfruit that finding is fairly recent when compared to Pomegranate (#2). In fact, since 2000, there has been a huge amount of interest and clinical studies of Pomegranate because the Pomegranate fruit is a phytochemical reservoir of health benefits. The Acai studies are finding much the same thing.
The medicinal value of these two superfruits is here to stay given their long and rich history and more researchers will be making authoritative findings for their medical use. For your convenience, we have attached many of the clinical studies for your review.
- What does Viva! Acai™ do for me?
Your body is in a constant battle against free radicals, which are very destructive to your health. And unfortunately, your body cannot produce enough antioxidants to fight back. Viva!Acai™ provides you with a very powerful array of antioxidants. It is what we call a smart product from a health standpoint.
Effectively fighting free radicals provides your body with a host of health benefits. You can read about some of the benefits that have been associated with using Acai and Pomegranate at www.best-acai.org. It is also interesting to review the long history of clinical studies which are attached to that website.
It is worth mentioning one point. Acai and Pomegranate are fruits and, in fact, superfruits. I think it is excellent news that clinical studies have been done on Acai and Pomegranate and it is certain that more clinical studies will be done. It gives you greater confidence in the health benefits conferred by Acai and Pomegranate. However, simple common sense tells us that fruit is good for us and for that reason, superfruits (as a category) provide even greater health benefits.
This is what we call inferred proof. We all know that fruit is healthy for us. Superfruits like Acai and Pomegranate bring an even higher health benefit to us. Direct proof is found in authoritative clinical studies.
The list of potential health benefits is a long one. Clinical studies of Acai and Pomegranate have been associated with (among other things):
- Providing anti-aging benefits
- Anti-inflammatory properties.
- Lowering (bad) cholesterol (LDL)
- Regeneration of damaged cartilage
- Increased energy
- Fighting dental plaque and viruses
- And¸much more.*

- I noticed that Viva! Acai™ contains Vitamin B12. Is there a reason why it was included in the formula?
Your body cannot manufacture Vitamin B12. In other words, it is an essential vitamin. Unfortunately, if your body has a deficiency of Vitamin B12, it can cause some serious health issues. Vitamin B12 maintains healthy cellular structures in your body, it carries oxygen to cells and removes carbon dioxide from your entire body, it builds DNA, and it assists in the maintenance of healthy nerve cells.
It also enjoys a reputation as an energy-builder, which of course makes it a perfect formula combination with Acai.
- I love Viva! Acai™ but wanted to understand what role Vitamin B12 plays here? I am 60 years old.
You can read the answers to the questions above, but let me add one more point. You said that you are 60 years old, so some comments about Vitamin B12 are in order here.
As you age, you have the potential to lose the ability to properly absorb Vitamin B12. So there is a correlation between aging and Vitamin B12 deficiency. The explanation can be simply this.
Hydrochloric acid assists your body in releasing Vitamin B12 from the protein found in foods. This is essential to it being absorbed into your intestines. However, it is estimated that thirty percent (30%) of adults over age fifty (50) may have atrophic gastritis (an inflammation of the stomach which decreases gastric juices including hydrochloric acid).
The good news is that Vitamin B12 in supplement form (such as that found in Viva!Acai™) can be absorbed into your body.
- I am a 25 year old athlete and taking Viva! Acai™. It is a great product and it seems to be giving an extra jump in my training. Where is all this energy coming from?
There is no doubt that Viva! Acai™ gives you more energy. The local surfers in Brazil were among the first athletes to discover the boost that Acai gives them as competitors and of course, the word spread quickly after that.
Adding Vitamin B12 is an extra bonus even for younger people. In one study that was conducted, it was found that of three age groups - 26-49 years, 50+ years, and 65 years and older - the Vitamin B12 deficiencies in all groups were about equal. The interesting footnote to this is that those who were not taking Vitamin B12 supplements were twice as likely to be deficient.
It goes without saying that those who do not consume sufficient protein (like vegetarians) must take Vitamin B12 in supplement form.
- I know a lot about Acai and Pomegranate and the health benefits that have been associated with using both, and I am learning more about Vitamin B12.What is considered to be a sufficient amount of Vitamin B12?
This is an interesting question. The U.S. Government had conducted studies that have apparently become a little outdated. The newer research indicates that the RDA should be raised.
For example, the guidelines for Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) were based on studies conducted in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The newer studies are very revealing.
For example, let’s look at the older RDAs:
No RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) has been established for infants. For that reason, an Adequate Intake (AI) has been set as follows:
Age (months) Males/Females*
0-6 mos. 0.4
7-12 mos. 0.5
* These AI values were based on vitamin B-12 derived from breast feeding.
NEWER RESEARCH SUGGESTS RAISING THE RDA
Research published in the January 2006 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is calling for the RDA of Vitamin B12 to be more than doubled. Other authoritative publications are calling for even greater increases. One study in France has stated that doses of 250-1,000 mcg (ug) would be necessary to resolve Vitamin B12 deficiency (pernicious anemia) [Clinical Lab Haematology 25: 161-66, 2003].
Research conducted in the Netherlands concluded that to normalize B12 levels 500 mcgs per day would be necessary. They also reported that greaterhealth benefits were derived with doses of up to 1,000 mcgs per day. [Archives Internal Medicine 165: 1167-72, 2005.]
Finally, a Canadian study concluded that even though patients had blood serum levels of what was thought to be normal, when higher doses of Vitamin B12 supplements were administered, they reported that their memory and energy levels improved. [Canadian Family Physician 43: 917-22, 1997.]
THE SUGGESTION THAT RDA BE RAISED
These findings lend support to raising RDA levels. It should be noted that the U.S. government in making its findings did not find a Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for Vitamin B12. (UL is the maximum daily intake that is likely to result in adverse health effects (The Institute of Medicine of the National Academics).
They stated in their findings that no adverse effects have been associated with excess Vitamin B12 intake from food and supplements in healthy individuals. Further, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends that adults over fifty (50) years of age get most of their Vitamin B12 from vitamin supplements or fortified foods because of the high incidence of impaired absorption in this age group of Vitamin B12 from foods that come from animals.
It was based on these findings that Viva! Acai™ was formulated using 1,000 mcgs of Vitamin B12.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
As of this writing, there is insufficient reliable evidence about the safety of consuming greater amounts of Vitamin B12 during pregnancy. The RDA for Vitamin B12 in pregnant women is 2.6 mcg per day and 2.8 mcg during lactation periods.
- What does Viva! Acai taste like?
Viva!Acai™ has a pleasant berry flavor. and it has the added advantage of only requiring ¼ oz. a day to get the full benefits. Most take it directly from the bottle since the dose is measured.
- There are some Acai products that have Glucosamine in them. Do you think those products provide any advantage for joint pain?
First of all, as the makers of Syn-flex®, we have years of experience in the liquid Glucosamine industry with our top-selling Syn-flex® liquid arthritis products. Your question actually raises three issues.
To begin with, liquid Glucosamine is used to ease the pain of osteoarthritis and help in rebuilding damaged cartilage. If any Acai product provider claims that the amount of Glucosamine found in their products is sufficient to handle both issues, I would be more than skeptical. There is another issue involved here and that is rehabilitating damaged cartilage.
The amount of Glucosamine found in the Acai products you are talking about do not have enough Glucosamine to make them very efficient in terms of joint pain and rehabilitating cartilage.
The regular formula of Syn-flex® contains 1,250 mg of Glucosamine and it does an incredible job of both easing arthritis pain and rehabilitating damaged cartilage. Syn-flex® also has a 1,500 mg product for use by anyone who suffers from osteoarthrittis (Syn-flex® 1500) as well as two formulas used for arthritis and hip dysplasia for family pets.
To explain further, the 1,250 mg Syn-flex® formula has years of success in easing osteoarthritis pain and rehabilitating damaged cartilage. The Syn-flex® 1500 formula just adds a little more Glucosamine, (i.e. 250 mg) for those who want more. That product also contains White Willow Bark, which is helpful with arthritis pain issues for humans or athletes but is not recommended for pet use.
For arthritis or hip dysplasia in family pets, most use eitherSyn-flex® for Pets original formula or Syn-flex® for Pets - Beef flavored formula. This formula has a beef flavor and 1,500 mgs of Glucosamine per 1/4 oz dose.
Further, there are clinical studies indicating that the pomegranate found in Viva! Acai™ does assist in rehabilitating damaged cartilage.
So to answer your question, the Acai products that contain small amounts of Glucosamine do not provide enough of it to make any significant difference to those suffering from osteoarthritis. If you suffer from osteoarthritis, you are better off using a product that is designed specifically for that purpose. To order Syn-flex® for Arthritis Pain, click here.
- I have osteoarthritis and some companies claim their Acai products will help with my joint pain. Is this true?
See the answer above. Generally, you are going to have to take a minimum of 1,250 mg Glucosamine daily to assist with your osteoarthritis problems. Or, as noted, the makers of Syn-flex® also offer a formula that has 1,500 mg (Syn-flex® 1500).
To further answer your question, I would mention two things. First of all, Acai plus Pomegranate, such as that found in Viva!Acai™, are very powerful antioxidants. In that sense, they offer benefits for those who suffer from osteoarthritis.
My best recommendation for those suffering from osteoarthritis is to take both a Syn-flex® liquid Glucosamine formula and Viva!Acai™. Dollar for dollar, there is no better value found for controlling osteoarthritis.
- I have seen Acai and Pomegranate in pill form. How good are these products? Also, I saw an advertisement that said liquids are absorbedinto your body at a rate of 98%. Is this true?
There are issues with using any supplement in pill or capsule formula. First of all, most such products contain fillers or binders which means that they do not deliver the dosage that is stated on the bottle. There have been many studies conducted on pills and capsules that found that frequently pills or capsules sold on many stores shelves just do not deliver as promised. Also, you will notice that most of these pill or capsule forms of Acai or Pomegranate do not contain very much of the ingredients that are supposed to help you.
Absorption of pills or capules (Acai plus Pomegranate)
Liquid(s) versus Pills or Capsules
As the makers of Syn-flex®, we have done a great deal of research on this issue. What you are asking about is two things. The first issue goes to the absorption of the Acai or Pomegranate that is being absorbed into your body.
The second issue is the bioavailability or how much of the Acai or Pomegrante is actually being delivered into my system.
As to claims that when using a liquid formula of Acai or Pomegranate being absorbed into your body at a rate of 98%, it is not true. There are companies that make this claim and cite a reference in the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) as proving that. In fact, that cited reference is an advertisement that appeared in the PDR.
If you see a company advertising any liquid product as having a 98% absorption rate, do not buy that product. It is clear that this is a company relying on the inaccurate advertisement that has spread across the internet and frankly, these companies have not done their homework.

Bioavailability of Acai or Pomegranate
See also the question we were asked below.
- Is there any reason why I should use a liquid Acai or Pomegranate product instead of a pill form? I see the pill form advertised at very low prices.
As the makers of Syn-flex®, we have years of experience in the formulation of liquid products. And clearly you should use a liquid form of Acai or Pomegranate.
First of all, our research indicates that the correct absorption rate for a liquid as opposed to a pill or capsule is somewhere between 80-85%. Compare that to literature that seems to indicate that pills or capsules provide only about 10-15% absorption and bioavailability.
Also, these pills and capsules of Acai or Pomegranate offer lower doses overall. When you add back the absorption and bioavailability issue, you are not getting as much for your dollar overall. (See our product guide at www.best-acai.org) This provides an excellent perspective on pills versus liquids and some of the Acai and Pomegranate products being offered for sale.
Without a doubt, Viva! Acai™ delivers an extraordinary amount of Acai plus Pomegranate at the best price on the market a day. If you review the product guide, it is the top pick for Acai and/or Pomegranate products on the market.
- My husband and I both take prescription medications. Is there anything we have to worry about if we take Viva! Acai™?
No. There is not any contraindication when using Viva! Acai™ and prescription medications. However, there are some Acai or Pomegranate products on the market today that pose some possibility of adverse side effects. They are listed in our product guide found at www.best-acai.org.
- My wife and I shopped at our local stores for both Acai and Pomegranate juices and the prices seemed very high? In fact, we thought they were too expensive even though the benefits are wonderful. Why are these products so high-priced?
You raise an excellent point. Yes. Unfortunately, with the benefits of using Acai (and/or Pomegranate) becoming clear, many manufacturers are charging what I think are unrealistic prices for their products. In fact, the price per day to use some of these Acai and Pomegranate products is far too high for the average consumer. (See the product guide found at www.best-acai.org/acai-product-guide.php)
In doing a shopping comparison myself, I found Acai and/or Pomegranate juices selling for as much as $70.00 per liter. The true value of what you are getting with the Acai or Pomegranate juice you buy is really the measure of the benefits you get from them.
It seems to me that some companies do not care about what you pay to get the benefits of using Acai or Pomegranate. They seem to focus more on profits.
We formulate Viva! Acai™ to provide maximum superfruit power for the best daily price value. (For more on this subject, see our product review at www.best-acai.org/acai-product-guide.php)
- It is hard to not notice that those who make Acai or Pomegranate products state that you get more energy when you use them. Is this true? If so, why would Acai or Pomegranate give me more energy? Some have caffeine in them. It seems to me that caffeine is where the "energy" is coming from.
It is true that Acai and Pomegranate do give you more energy. But you are right. Most of these products contain either caffeine or Guarana, a natural caffeine. Acai is noted for its energy-boosting capacities and Pomegranate adds some extra health benefits that likely contribute to this.
For those products that have caffeine in them, is it any surprise that you would have more energy? Of course not. Anyone who drinks coffee (and other beverages with caffeine in them) gets more energy. But I have a position on this that I think is important.
First of all, caffeine has been the subject of many studies to see if there are any adverse consequences and to see if there are any benefits from caffeine. The results have been mixed on these issues but it seems clear that too much caffeine is not good for you.
It should also be noted that caffeine can have an adverse result when you are taking prescription medications. I would think that would weigh heavily on any decision you make as to which Acai or Pomegranate product you may wish to use.
21. I was looking at different Acai products and one has Yerba Mate in it. Whatis Yerba Mate? Is this an ingredient that is good for you?
Yerba Mate is a tea that is widely used in South America. In fact, it is often referred to as the Beverage of the Gods. Yerba Mate contains mateine which is a cousin of caffeine.
Now, my feeling is that the makers of this product add it to provide more energy but frankly, it offers little difference in my mind. It is a stimulant.
This particular product maker has offered that the Yerba Mate is added because it also has antioxidant properties. Since Acai standing alone is the most powerful Antioxidant in the world, I see no reason to include it whatsoever other than to give you a lift. And since Acai (particularly when Pomegranate is added) can accomplish the same thing, I think it is totally unnecessary as an ingredient in any acai drink or acai juice.
Why not rely on the Acai juice itself to give you the extra energy you are seeking? After all, that is one of the benefits of using Acai. In the case of Viva! Acai™ you also get a lift from the B12 as well as the Acai.
22. I have noticed that many Acai products are sold using Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). My husband and I share the same feeling of many others. MLM companies rely on a lot of ‘hype’ and their sellers are alldistributors trying to make money selling the products. What do youhave to say about this?
Historically, Multi-Level Marketing companies earned a bad reputation and in an attempt to lose that reputation, the more modern terminology for such companies is to call them Network Marketing Companies. Frankly, there is no difference except in the manner in which they call themselves. It is also unfortunate but true that these companies rely on two things. First, they build small distributorships by selling someone their products. In order for these distributors (often a husband and wife or just one person working alone) to be profitable, they try in turn to sell you on becoming one of their subdistributors. Those subdistributors in turn try to recruit more subdistributors for themselves. The original distributor (of course) makes financial gains not only through their own sales of the product but through this network of subdistributors who have become part of this seemingly endless chain.
And you are also correct in saying that there is much hype going on with MLM distributors. After all, they have to hype their product and the possibility of earning large sums of money through these networks.
Of course, given the incredible benefits associated with using Acai or Pomegranate, it was inevitable that MLM companies would target these remarkable products to promote their profit centers.
Since the headquarters of these companies have to pay out huge commissions to their distributors, they have to overprice their products. It is true of all MLM companies. So if you want to pay more, it is your choice.
We tried our best to be objective in our evaluation of Acai or Pomegranate Products sold through MLM companies. As we expected, these Acai and Pomegranate products were a bit pricey when compared to others on Market.*
*To assist you as a consumer, we have noted in our acai/pomegranateguide those companies that sell either acai or pomegranate products using MLM marketing.
23. What is an ORAC value? I see this term used when I read about superfruits.
This is also explained fairly easily. An ORAC value is assigned to superfruits. In general, it is a measurement of a much higher nutrient content than ordinary fruits, such as apples, grapes, or oranges. ORAC values are the very definition of a superfruit.
To some extent, all fruits are good for your health. But, when you compare superfruits like Acai and Pomegranate, it is overwhelmingly clear that the Acai and Pomegranate provides a huge amount of health benefits.
When you compare the ORAC value of Acai or Pomegranate, it is extraordinarily high when compared to regular fruits.
24. I have heard that some companies have promoted Pomegranate as a cancer treatment. Is this true?
While there have been some promising studies about the use of superfruits, and studies continue for cancer treatment, it would be irresponsible to make any such claims. If you suspect that you have cancer of any kind, see an oncologist for a professional opinion.
25. I am taking Viva!Acai™ and I wondered if there is any reason why my elderly parents and teenage children should not take it as well?
There is no reason whatsoever why they should not do so. Healthy juices like Viva!Acai™ are just smart choices for the health conscious individual.
26. My family and I take multi-vitamins and supplements. Is there any reason why we need to take a product like Viva!Acai™?
I would suggest that Viva!Acai™ is essential to you. It is a powerhouse of antioxidants and it is not matched by even the best of multi-vitamins. There is no doubt the main ingredients in Viva! Acai™ will always be part of the health landscape.
27. My family drinks green tea in large amounts because it is famous for its antioxidant power. Can you tell me how Viva! Acai™ helps us?
While green tea has always enjoyed a reputation for its antioxidant qualities, it is #3 on the list of antioxidant power right behind Acai (#1) and Pomegranate (#2). Certainly we would not discourage you from continuing to drink green tea, but if you want the greatest possible antioxidant power, you are going to have to take Acai and/or Pomegranate, preferably both.
This ranking of antioxidants was provided by Dr. Stephen Perricone when he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, so I would consider it very reliable.
Ranking of Anitoxidants in terms of power:
- Green Tea
That is why Viva! Acai™ was formulated using both Acai and Pomegranate. This combination of superfruits provides you with the greatest amount of antioxidant power.
- I was searching for an Acai juice because I love the health benefits that have been associated with drinking them. I found one that I thought sounded goodbut my friend told me it is not really an Acai juice. The Acai product is called Fruta Vida.
That is a fair question and we have done some research on this product (see our product guide here).
Fruta Vida is sold through Multi-Level Marketing company (or as they prefer to be called a network marketing company) so I am always somewhat skeptical. After all, the people who are promoting Acai juices through these companies make money enlisting distributors to work for them.
If you investigate the Fruta Vida product carefully, you will find it is not a true Acai juice. It is primarily made up of apple juice and a puree of several other juices. Yes, they have some acai in the product but largely this is apple juice.
One more point. Fruta Vida contains Yerba Mate tea. This is what gives you that extra energy because Yerba Mate is caffeine. Hey, you can go to Starbucks to get a boost from coffee or tea! If I am going to spend that much money for what someone says is an Acai juice, I want the real thing.
Acai juices, if properly formulated, will give you that extra boost without the need for caffeine.
- I was wondering about something that is probably pretty simple to answer. How can I measure the superfruits like Acai and Pomegranate against ordinary fruits?
That is a fair question and it comes down to the ORAC values assigned to fruits in general. Of course, Acai and Pomegranate rank at the top in terms of antioxidant capabilities but again, let’s look at one ordinary fruit as an example.
Apples do not rank high on the antioxidant scale in the overall picture. (See our ORAC chart at http:/www.best-acai.org/superfruits.php)
However, we found a recent article where prominent researchers at Cornell University’s Department of Food Science have found that thousands of the phytochemicals in apples (mainly in the peel), retard tumor growth in cell cultures and in animals.
The lead researcher on this project (Dr. Rui Hai Liu) found that apples pack a powerful health benefit due to the large number of phytochemicals found in them.
As Mom said, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
According to Dr. Liu, the phytochemical is metabolized in our bodies differently, which suggest that they are effective health components on all parts of our body.
In addition, a study conducted at the Center for Cellular Neurobiology and Neurodegeneration Research at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, found that apple juice improved cognitive function in mice. They are currently taking a look at how consuming apple juice might assist those with Alzheimer’s Disease.
The apple is very low in phytonutrients when compared with Acai and Pomegranate so these studies are most encouraging for those who benefit from using these superfruits.
Clearly, if an apple is generating this much interest, Acai and Pomegranate are off the charts high in interest. I might add, both of these clinical studies are consistent with findings supporting the use of Acai and Pomegranate. It is a strong signal of support for both superfruits.
